Spring Break 2007 - Return To New Orleans

Since our last newsletter we have been very busy getting ready for the deployment of our mobile convoy to New Orleans (more below) as well as supporting other ministries including “Mentor Kids USA” on their mission trip to Puerto Penasco , Mexico . We have (barely) had time to turn our cargo trailer into a “Kitchen support unit” which has 2 refrigerators, two freezers, a generator, a pressure washer, an air compressor, lots of tools, a 10X20 shelter and shelving for lots of dry goods and supplies. This unit has proven invaluable and is already scheduled for additional mission trips.

Our return to New Orleans this month to support the Campus Crusade For Christ's “New Orleans Relief: Spring Break 2007” is in full swing and God's hand is evident throughout! The event is taking place in each of the 4 weeks of March, with up to 3,000 participants expected. Our job is to cook 2 meals a day for the Crusade teams, as well as teams from several other ministries including Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Adventures in Missions and Beacon Of Hope. We will also be cooking food for the WOW Jam festival which is a music, witness and service festival to be held in New Orleans at the end of the month.

Another recent great event for us is that we have been blessed to have two new volunteers join our ministry. Evan Smith from Louisiana and “Mouse” Fete from California have both agreed to serve with us on a full time basis. Both of them are working at our New Orleans cooking site. Mouse is currently our head cook, and has been very busy to say the least, the latter portions of this newsletter are an update from her about how things have been going there.

When we return from New Orleans we will be going to Mexicali Mexico to support a mission trip of Renton Park Chapel from Washington State . After that we will be cooking at the “Community Service Day” in Maricopa, and then its time for a well deserved break and a time of seeking the Lord as to which avenues of ministry expansion we should be pursuing.

At this exciting time of ministry growth we are more dependent than ever on God's grace and provision which are evidenced by the prayers and support of his children for our little ministry. We would like to ask you to be in prayer for us as we return from New Orleans and specifically that some needed funding will arrive to keep the bills paid and to provide maintenance on our vehicles so that they may be ready for any future deployments or emergencies.

The following is Mouse's report from the cooking site in New Orleans ;

‘His mercies are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness, oh Lord.' God has shown Himself good and gracious this week. Eleven hundred students from Campus Crusade and a team from Adventures in Missions have come to New Orleans this week, and have come in and out of our kitchen for meals as God led them to different sections of the city to minister and bless.

We have seen over and over again God's mercies; the reports from the teams have been positive, and our own team has witnessed God's grace in our time cooking and serving the teams who go out on the streets. Teams worked in local schools, both working with children and repairing buildings, some students were sent to do street clean-up and work with pest control centers, some gutted houses, and some did street evangelism and vacation Bible school.

The Wings of Love team spent time coordinating in our kitchen and in the service line, working on mechanical maintenance, making sack lunches for teams who had to travel extra, and of course spending time in praise and prayer.

We were also able to take some of our teammates to see the damage still very evident in Ninth Ward and other Katrina and Rita stricken areas of the city. Please pray that God will continue to work in the hearts of the people here; God can draw them, and fill the needs created by the gap made when Katrina destroyed possessions, homes, families, and even communities.

May God bless you all, and we continue to keep you in prayer as well.
